Instant Immersion provides in-depth lessons, focusing on the basics of the German language. This program will introduce to you everything from simple words to complex phrases and dialogue. Instant Immersion also offers a good speech recognition system which is designed to improve your pronunciation and accent.
Instant Immersion uses a variety of examples and features to present German in the easiest way possible. In addition to images, videos and audio clips, Instant Immersion has native speakers running the lessons.
There are, however, some aspects of this product we thought could be improved. The first is customer and technical support. Instant Immersion is one of the worst products we reviewed for this. We also would have liked to see them offer online testing and chat with native speakers.
Although Instant Immersion is a relatively easy program to use, we did have trouble getting used to navigating around the program. Because the software is broken down into nine discs—many of which are formatted differently—we had a hard time learning how to use each one. As well, we didn’t like how much disc swapping we had to do just to get from one lesson to another.
This being said, once we figured out how to navigate each disc, we were impressed with how easy the program is to use. The buttons are clear and the directions are concise.
One of the best features Instant Immersion German brings to the table is its versatility. It presents the topic in a number of ways, making it easy to understand and use. It is also extremely interactive, to the point that you get to pick what you want to learn and when you want to learn it. It’s not like some of the other language learning software that have a step-by-step formula. With Instant Immersion you get to jump around and have fun while you’re learning.
Instant Immersion also offers great progress tracking features so you’re always aware what subjects you’re excelling in and which need work. Another feature which helped solidify Instant Immersion at the top of our list is its voice recognition system. This system records your voice and plays it back to you so you can compare it to the native German teacher on the program. This is a great system that will enhance your German pronunciation and accent.
For those who can’t spend all their time behind a computer, Instant Immersion has a bonus audio disc which easily transfers audio over to your iPod and MP3 player so you can learn on the go.
Sadly, Instant Immersion doesn’t offer many internet resources like our top rated product. Although they do have quizzes and games within the system, there is no online test. As well, Instant Immersion does not have online chat with native German speakers.
Installation of Instant Immersion was incredibly easy and quick. It was matter of roughly five minutes from the moment the box was open to the moment we were in our first German lesson.
